what electric fans have you used sucessfully

Post by markmitchinnh »

My 89 Astro has approximately 3.5 inches from radiator to water pump pulley and a taurus fan will not fit so I am looking for options that have been used successfully. Thank you, Mark
Recently bought a 1989 Astro RS from Florida. Replaced stock engine witha 1997 5.7 vortec with TBI and replaced transmission with rebuilt 700R4 with mild shift kit.

Mark-thought you knew Lifted used a Crown Vic 14" fan and Lockdoc did in fact use a Taurus dual fan spacing it out the rad with some minor washers. For me the 14" fan is the game plan, but you must use the relays because of the amount of air it moves and the amount of circuit it draws.

Almost forgot.Don't use those dumb bass plastic ties. They rub/vibrate against the tubes of the rad for a potential leak and far and away you better off spacing the trans cooler away from the rad so the heat from the rad doesn't transfer heat to the cooler.

Also I had issues with both the 94 and the rv's rubber hose cracking at the connection.I talked to the hose supplier and he admitted to me across the board the whole hose industry had cheapened their product.Suggested we change to the fuel injection hose for the cooler's not for the pressure, but because it is a better made hose.We did and it solved the problem.Kind of a dumb failure to have happen running all the tranny fluid out of a cracked hose and not know it ruining a tranny.

I have a taurus fan and it hits the engine as it is way to thick from motor to back of fan. Not sure why cause my last van had a 350 with the same nose and it had more room and the water pump is the exact same pn.

There are short w/p's and long style w/p's which might share part numbers.Only difference would be the yr car/truck it was on.

I remember us busting on Bill at a NECO about him spacing out the rad with washers to fit the fan on his 305 SBC van.
