Looking for some suggestions on a muffler

Post by completetech »

My muffler blew up (as per my previous posts on troubleshooting my gas leak into my exhaust). So I am now looking for something decent. something that sounds decent maybe slightly beefier then stock yet not to loud as I always am on the phone in the van. I am considering ordering one as the local shops are going to have to weld one up anyways and all the local parts shops are also out of a lot of stuff as well. not sure why but I figure I am going to have to wait to get it anyhow so I mine-as-well save a few dollars and get something better then factory and cheaper then the parts store. I just dont want to sound like I'm trying to be cheesy or trying to drag race a over done up mustang or something. Just something decent yet slightly beefier then factory sound.

I'd really like to get something that bolts up of possible so that I dont have to take it to a shop, but I know that most likely isnt going to happen.

Thanks,
Nathan

Sorry man, I like stock. Nice a.nd quiet. My neighbor has Magnaflows on his vehicles and they sound good but not too loud. Not sure of the series but the loud factor is just above stock. Hope this helps

That stock muffler is quiet but it's huge. I was thinking along the same lines. Maybe a smaller muffler and room for a compressed air cylinder under there someplace.. But I sure do like the quiet, especially when I come from the Cummins with a straight pipe..

I ran a Flowmaster 40 series and it was very loud...don't buy one of them if you want to talk on the phone. It sounded great though! :D

I made my own setup using a glass pack cherry bomb and then a magnaflow using 2.5" pipe.
It has some grumble but isnt too loud I dont think.
But I like the sound of straight-pipes too, so...

Nice. I'd like to do something custom. But when driving it... (it is a cargo van). I am working and on the phone A LOT. So a nice little deeper sound would be ok. But nothing loud as I'd have to be yelling into the phone or Bluetooth.

Lol... Nice. I was dying laughing at that. Be a very funny gift idea for someone. But doesn't help me get my exhaust... I love how distracting the Internet is.

Anyone use the Walker FX that's supposedly a direct fit??

Bottom Line...

Any muffler that you install that is non-oem will cause noise issues. Especially in a cargo (echo box) van.

Good Luck with that though, Do keep us posted.

Yup, I used about a 27" CB-GP too, but I dumped it straight into a 14" Magnaflow, all 2.5 pipe from the cat, back.
Bought all the mufflers clamps pipe and stuff at Canadian Tire Store, but I did a bit of welding to it too.
Sounds great, no drone. I could talk on a phone, if it was legal here to do that, lol. Here, Have a listen to it..

sounds pretty good. For the time being. I went with some "OE" type replacement from a local parts warehouse around here. got all the clamps muffler and a thermostat for $60.44 OTD which I thought for now is a decent deal...

Sound racer,..... way cool!
But, in this small world, I also blew up my Astro muffler. How did the one you bought work out? Did it at least have the 3 bolt flange on the front?

I thought to go with a generic muffler and clamp it in place so I saved the inner pipes of the muffler. Nice and round with two choices of diameter. BUT, with a 40% discount, I can buy the Walker Quiet-Flow SS Stainless Steel Direct-Fit Muffler
Part No: 21306 for $74.99 and the Walker Tail Pipe Part No: 54141 for $26.39 ! This doesn't include tax or the flange gasket for $4.79. So it looks like I will replace the whole thing from the flange back. Question.... anyone see or use the new strap clamps???? Image
I have never seen them before.
Can anyone find a better price for these parts???? I seem to do very well at AdvancedAuto. Especially using their discounts and for 40% off, I use their referral system. Refer to one of my kids, they get 40% off and I get $10 added to my paypal acct.

Any better deals???? And, am I correct in thinking this Walker muffler is closest to oem quiet? Loud sucks.... specially when ya just wanna hide from people..... specially LEO's. 8-[
