AWD Chassis joint lubrication

Post by MountainManJoe »

I made a list for myself, and I thought I'd share it here too.

Steering linkage:
- Pitman arm to intermediate rod (x1)
- intermediate link to centre link (x1)
- Centre link to tie rod (L+R)
- Tie rod to knuckle (L+R)
- Idler arm (L+R)
- Idler arm to centre link (L+R)
* some idlers only have 1 set

Suspension:
Upper balljoint (L+R)
Lower balljoint (L+R)
Rear spring shackle bushings (L+R, aftermarket)

Total zerk fittings: 16

You should have found most of it, Smilie. The diagram isn't 100% accurate, but it's the closest I could find. Also, RWD's are a bit different.

Just pulling your chain, Timeless. Several years ago I converted over to rack and pinion. Nice write up. It will help a lot of people. :supz:

Question, I replaced my tie rod ends and am wondering if I should reset this boot, or if its normal to look like this? As the pic shows the grease starts coming out, but it doesn't look like grease would be getting everywhere throughout the boot. The otherside is the same.

Appreciate this thread, I found and greased the 14 zirks I have.

It looks OK to me. Try greasing it with the wheels all the right, and then all the way left.
