91 safari awd..speedo stays at 0... most likely cause?

Post by Gordon »

Just go this van home today. The speedo was working when i picked it up but died on the way home.

What do you figure it is?

A) Battery is stone dead and had to be boosted?
B) VSS?
C) Wiring?
D) Digital dash issues?

Thanks in advance,
Gordon

If you have high miles on the van, I would take the cluster out and take it apart. Look for cold solder joints. I had a lot on mine causing a couple of the gauges not to work.

237,000 kms so not really high but I will check the gauges to start.

every once in a while mine will stick at zero. my solution which has always worked, is to slap the top of the dash with my left hand. my speedo always jumps to life after therapy.

That symtom definately sounds like cold solder joints.
