What crate motor should i use

Post by jasonr73 »

Well I pulled my 4.3 and decided to put in a crate engine The motor listed in summit are 1996 though 98, my astro is a 1992 w code which I beleive is the L35. It is a roller lifter engine. I am figuring by the time I fix my noisy valve train and camshaft I may be better off with crate motor. Could anyone give me advice on what I should do. The van is a ext awd and way to nice of condition to get rid of.

The main reason why I'm asking you for your location is the rebuild 4.3 out of Ole Yellar I'm selling. It has only 50,000 miles on it and has nothing at all wrong with it.You just touch the key and it starts.I would make a smoking deal for members from here. All you would have to do is swap oil pans for it to fit into your van.But local pick up only.I wouldn't crate and ship.

Depends on what you're going for and how stock you want to be. I'd do a TBI replacement engine if you're looking to swap over to TBI or a Vortec 350 with an aftermarket TBI intake. I'd probably avoid non-roller engines, nothing wrong with them but extra risk and headache these days.

I thought Old Yellar was an 85, which means it's a cool engine because it's an "E" (carb) engine but I don't know if it'd be much use in this case. I'm surprised that a boater hasn't been interested in it in a way, would be a good drop in for someone that wants to replace a blown up Mercruiser.

Personally if it were me, I'd probably call around to local rebuilders and see what they can do for you. Depending on your needs it may be better to go local.
