You know better than me Smilie. What you stated is also what I thought. Which means oil is forced UP into lifter valley. The article is about lubing the cam gear which means that after the oil is thrown up to the galley it would only drip down by gravity through the slit onto the gear, right? Or am I missing a step?

Early 265 that came out in 1955? As opposed to the later 1956 265? Yeah, we all remember working on the original small block! :muhaha: :poke:

Not sure about "all" of us...I wasn't even a glimmer in my dad's eye in the 50's. Heck my dad was born in 1950! :muhaha:

You need a different material dist gear for a stock cast iron flat tappet cam than you need for a steel roller or after market cam. But in the 27 gazillion small blocks I've built I never killed a gear otherwise. If cutting a slot gives you a warm feeling, go for it.
