I have a 86 Safari with a 88 tbi motor, 700r4 trans with shift kit and 3:08 posi rear end. I am currently working on another project a 97 Safari AWD and looking to replace the dead 4.3 vortec with a 5.7 vortec

Howdy all;

I sat my 305, bored 60 over, in my 91 shorty last spring, but my job at the school got cut, so had to haul it home for the summer. However, I am now teaching about 200 miles north of where I used to be, and will be hauling the Safari up to Tyler Texas in a few short weeks, to continue the install. The engine and trans are bolted in, but nothing is hooked up to them yet.

Hopefully by the spring, the heart will start to beat again in the ol' Saf. :supz:

Drive safely,

Can I add mine to the list now or does it have to run first? Can you tell I'm excited? :muhaha:

I have had a V8 Astro for 12 years now. It is an 85 Astro with a 85 Corvette Tuned Port Fuel Injection motor.

I am working on a full show Astro. I dont have the funds I had when I started, but will be done someday.

I still have my 87 Astro CS, with 94 LT1, but.. It is in rebuild right now. I installed a HV oil pump and was going down a hill and decided to put it in 2nd and listen to the pipes...too much for the oil pump drive, and locked up engine before I got home.
Hopefully the main journals are ok and the crank can make .010 or .020 on both; journals and mains. Even tho turned the stock crank is better that some aftermarket new cranks. I will bore it out to .030 and have new rods and pistons. Found a guy who will port iron heads for cheap and use the iron heads, 1.6" rr and pacesetter long tube race headers. Probably also go with the MSD opti KIT.
