vehical storage

Post by markmitchinnh »

I have my 1989 Astro RS here and the V8 is all in but winter is coming and this van has never seen a winter & my yard is gravel and I have no garage. Anyone ever store a vehicle outside? Would it be better to put plywood down under the van?
maybe put it on jack stands? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Recently bought a 1989 Astro RS from Florida. Replaced stock engine witha 1997 5.7 vortec with TBI and replaced transmission with rebuilt 700R4 with mild shift kit.
Bought on Monday the 16th of April 2012

I stored my 95 van as well as my truck now on just gravel. This allows air to get under and keep the moisture to a minimum. Don't cover it and definitely keep it off the grass! Worst part will be keeping mice and squirrels and chipmunks from building nests.
Current rides:

2008 Dodge Nitro 4x4
2005 Nissan Sentra 1.8S Special Edition

1998 Astro 4x4 D44, D60, NP231, full hydraulic system with 9k# Milemarker winch and snow plow - sold to Lockdoc
2003 Astro AWD all stock - traded for a 3/4 ton truck

LPS 3 prevents rust for two yrs.We used it on bare SBC machined parts that we sold at swap meets. It works.Expensive through.Paraffin base and is kind of hard to get off.Get two gallons and a hand sprayer.Do everything on the sides and bottom. The coverage is really good.

A good breathable car cover so it doesn't retain the moisture.
