Rear Door Removal

Post by muzzy5.0 »

Haven't posted for a while,
Bought a second Astro (1991) as a breaker for parts for 'Ol Stinky' (1993)

Want to use the rear doors from it, could not get the hinge pins out of the doors on the breaker. Before I go ahead and cut through the ones on Ol Stinky,
Is there a particular technique for getting the pins out? They look like they should just drift out upwards, but I was whacking hell out of 'em, nothing .....

Thanks

Can you use heat and an air hammer? I suppose you could cut the pins with a sawsall and try to remove them after that.

Yeah, that's kinda what I did with the ones on the breaker, had to cut the pins in the cracks between the hinges, trouble is the tops are stuck in the upper part of the hinges and I caught the doors a bit with the saw 'coz of the angle.
Haven't tried heat yet ... didn't know if was some 'trick' I should know about.

There *IS* a special tool to remove said hinge pins. It looks like a G-Cramp, but the anvil end has a fork and the screw end is just a pin.

Sorry, but I can't draw one - my artistic talents lie elsewhere.

Aha! I wondered if there might be ....
The chances of getting one of course are pretty slim I bet, especially over here in England.

Does get me thinking though, some kind of press like puller that pushes !?

Think I'm gonna need a couple of beers to think up something like that O:)

Thanks for that Capt.
I had something way scarier than that going on in my head !!

I'll have a look at getting one shipped over, any ideas on a supplier?
