Corroded Rims

Post by JHenry45 »

My 2004 Astro has corroded spots on some otherwise nice looking aluminum rims.

The rims are coated with some kind of clear coat that has broken loose and flaked off on the corroded spots.
Has anyone had any luck polishing out the corroded spots and renewing the clear coat?

Thanks,
John

I suppose you could try to polish them, but from my experience, you would be better off blasting them with paint. The problem with the clear is where it is corroded it'll show the pitting unless it's very light.

you would need to strip the reamining clear coat, polish the rims, and then re-clear.
I have a ban hammer and I ain't fraid to use it!

I'd strip, wire brush and paint flat black. Very easy to maintain!

Did you read this topic in the same section? The owner successfully stripped and polished them.
