1999 Leaf spring sag

Post by krsowles »

I looked at my 1999 AWD the other day and noticed my leaf springs are "frowning" not "smiling". Should I also be "frowning"? Kelly

That's pretty typical for vans with steel leafs up to 2002. They must have changed the spring rates in 2003 because they tend to sit higher. I know my 2005 sits at least 1-2 inches higher than my 98 did. The 98 rested on the bumpstops where my 05 barely hits them at all.

Throw some Timbrens back there and your van will smile too.

My wife isn't going to smile but I think it may be time to lift it! After Marktanium's posts, why not! I have the front lift, just need to order back springs and appropriate hardware! My birthday is in a couple weeks. Happy birthday to me!

I replaced my stock springs with 1700# springs from General Spring and I am very happy with them. No more bouncing and bottoming out and it rides great full or empty. It was easy to do, just make sure you don't get the springs mounting the wrong way. They are not symmetric. The new springs were thicker and not bowed as much. You will have to add a spacer between the axle mount and the bracket. Ride height was increased, but I just increased the torsion bars in front to compensate. The rear looks a little higher here, but it has settled nicely. Big improvement Highly recommend. Hope this is helpful.
