Possible steering upgrade

I was on a zr2 forum and was reading thu posts on a popular upgrade for the s-10 zr2 vehicles. It involved simply replacing the stock ps pump with one from a 2500 series. Straight bolt up for them. I looked it up and the zr2's and at least my 99 AWD share the same part #. Will try this on my van and let you know

Save you the trouble, it's the same pump as Astro/Safari without the reservoir.

but will the added pressure help or hinder the brakes?
Does the S10 use this system?

Just to clarify, the Duralast 7137 pump with reservoir cross-references to a Cardone 20-860 pump without reservoir which is also the stock Astro pump.

According to this thread: http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/chevy/95 ... -info.html, comparing the Duralast 7137 pump and stock Astro pump NSP 811411 / Cardone 20-860, they have same specs.

P/S Pump Line Thread Size : M16 x 1.5
P/S Pump Shaft Type : w/ Hub, Internal Thread

This pump is rated to produce 1280-1550 psi and puts out 1.7GPM at 400rpm and 3.6GPM at 1600rpm.

From what it looks like, I don't believe ZR2 and Astro pump use the same pump stock. Am I missing something from the ZR2 thread?

WoodB, it looks like the S10 uses a standard type vacuum booster and not hydroboost.

Only real steering upgrade to be had is the quick ratio FE2 steering gear, but it's case is only designed to fit the 2WD vans. Cardone told me that the FE2 parts will fit in a AWD van's steering gear case though.

Kind of, we use the pump the S10/ZR2 guys are upgrading too, it seems.

The stock Astro pump with 31" tires has been fine for me but I haven't gotten myself in too many ridiculous situations either.

Having just replaced my pump, I did look around a bit to see what was out there and remembered reading that pirate4x4 thread in the past about the Astro pump being used for some conversions.

First, I attempted to rebuild my original pump but after pressing in the new shaft bushing, the shaft fit was too tight so I scrapped that and went with the Cardone 20-860 reman pump to keep costs down and get it all back together since I spent too much time fitting/bending the longer replacement p/s lines.
