Loose Steering

Post by Jennifer »

Hey guys,
My steering has been kind of loose... you know, the wheel turns about a quarter turn before the car will actually turn. It's really no big deal, but I was wondering of there was a way to make it a little tighter. I replaced the idler arm and lower ball joints (they all had to be done anyway) and hoped that would help, and it did a little. I know it's a pitman arm and not rack and pinion so I'm not sure how to approach it. Any tips would be appreciated! Thanks!

Look for the "Steering Box Adjustment" thread stickied in this section. :yawinkle:

Oh, and there are 2 idler arms. If one was bad the other is too...most likely.

Hey Jen.Kind of a FYI suggestion after the replaced parts. It is a recommended to use only Moog brand name idler arms, steering parts, etc, because they last the longest and are the most durable.

I did use moog, but I was told by the parts store, both the physical one and the online one that there was only one on the AWD....

I purchased the moog in store and was told I only needed one... I guess I'm going back for the second. :(
