Where to buy 2001 AWD pitman arm?

Post by rlyoung »

Dealer says I need a new pitman arm and an idler arm. I will be testing things myself to see if I agree. However, should I need one, I can't find anyone selling a pitman arm for a 2001 AWD Astro. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Did you try Amazon, Ebay, Summit Racing, Advance Auto, Autozone, Pepboys, Rock Auto, or any of the other usual automotive sources?

Its pretty common for people to use incorrect terminology.
He must mean something else, like maybe the 'OTHER' idler arm, or the drag link?

The GM parts site diagram showed 26057019 as the AWD part number, and as a search term that seems to have opened the door for finding sources.

I'm calling the pitman arm OK, but the idler arms show some play. Not as much as some of the you tube videos, but some. I don't know enough to professionally diagnose them as needing replacement, but the tires do rock in/out a bit at 3 and 9 o'clock, and there is 'some' movement on the idler arms, so I'm leaning to replacing them myself as it looks pretty easy. The shocks weren't that hard, although I will probably need to get a puller (more tools!). The idler arms are easy to find anywhere, although I'm not sure which brand/grade is worth the extra money. Moogs are probably out of my budget. Carquest around the corner has ones for $35 each--middle grade according to them.

Yeah, the Moog's are too good to pass up at that price. I don't even need them yet and I bought a pair just to squirrel away.

I got the Moogs (Carquest boxes). Look genuine. At $10 a piece it seems too good to be true, but I guess there is a first time for everything. Dealer wanted $365 each. Yes, $365, uninstalled. They seem very stiff. I can't move them with a modest effort. Better stiff than loose I guess?

(Edit: They do move but obviously need grease)
