Eaton/Detroit, Torsen or Yukon seems to be the question

Post by WE7X »

I am looking for input as to which to choose for my '98 AWD.
I have surveyed the used parts in the area, and have not found a suitable and serviceable 3.73 ratio LS rear end (GU4/G80 combo).
Some have suggested that I should forget about spending $100 or so, on a used unit 'that will fail'; and some shops call that unit a 'Time bomb'...
OK, I am getting the message. I have decided to heed the advice of the more experienced, and offer up my '98 van for a differential upgrade at a local well respected shop.
The questions is: Which unit should I install?
I am interested in the Pro's and Con's of the three units that seem to be available.
The Detriot/Eaton, the Torsen, and the Yukon, are all well regarded aftermarket assemblies and the shop I have chosen does not seem to care which I have them install. In fact they said I could supply the unit if I wished, and they would be happy to install what I supply.

OOPS!
Sorry!
Somehow I posted this to the BRAKES category. How do I move it to DRIVELINE subject?

New guy mistake, or just plain not paying attention?

Sorry, you already have 3.73 rear open. You need a carrier for your open. Here you go

Def. look into dragging that ci front diff back across the border. Have them put a magnet to it make sure. We gotta grab these things now. They are getting scarce

Hi,

Which one of the limited slip rear units did you finally buy?
I am waiting to decide on my 2003 AWD with 3.42 ratio.
I may go 4.10 or 3.31 to get better acceleration with 30" tires.
