2004 rear brake calipers info .calipers junk

Post by pbgbottle »

has anybody ever upgraded the rear calipers on the later astro safari's
my van keeps killing these rear aluminum calipers .piston seizes .and once pushed back in to seated spot when replacing pads it just gets jammed inside .
its like the aluminum body's wear out or warp .,jamming up the piston .even if piston doesn't tottally jam up,the caliper will drag . ,heating up the rotor ,
just curious if anybody has a found a steel replacement from another vehicle or for the astro . i need better calipers .i guess i do a lot of heavy towing in the hills

cheers

You probably has control over the situation, but anyway - I had a similar experience with one side of my front brakes. Couldn't figure out why it was dragging, and was slower engaging than the other side. Had a couple scary situations where my van turned left when I needed a quick stop.
Finally found that the brakehose was collapsed inside, with almost no opening. I guess if this happens at the rear, both sides would operate equally slow.
