trouble wiring alarm sys to power door locks

Post by batmo »

the vans an '86 with power door locks but non-remote. I was finally able to get the power locks all functioning again now I want to add keyless entry.

first, where is the door lock relay located?

my alarm is Autopage w/ keyless entry remote.

it has available both positive and negative door lock outputs you can select.

Ive tracked down the wires in the kick panel, one lt. blue and one blk./wht. and they are positive charge when the door switch activates them but when I tap them with the remote trigger wire I only get a quite "click" from the lock solinoids but no lock or unlock.

do I need to tap into the door lock relay or somewhere else?

since the door lock switch has five wires and not three and two of them are all black I think I might need to supply both power and ground, no?

who knows how to do this?

thanks

got it working..

the door lock actuators use reversable current to operate so to add remote keyless entry I tapped four wires. all located behind the drivers kick panel.

I was expecting to only tap the lock switch wires (two) but the two actuator wires must also be tapped into.

lots of good info on this subject and many others at the12volt.com

Im still intrested to know where the door lock relay is located.
