New shaft same old noise

Post by Captn. Crunch »

Hey
It's been awhile but I'm back. I had posted some time ago about a grinding noise coming from under my 99 AWD when I romp on it. I found I had a bad inner boot drivers side so I replaced the axle. Job went smooth, in and out no problem. Couldn't find any source of the intermittant grinding noise though. Backing off the lift it started making the noise! My brother got underneath the van and found the problem. Play in the idler arm would flex the center link up into the harmonic balancer. Time for some moog parts

Slammed in a couple of Moog idler arms on Saturday. I am fortunate to have a brother who owns an auto sales and service here in Niantic. Having access to a lift and all the tools with the parts store right across the street sure makes these kinds of things much easier to deal with. Old idlers were shot to hell. New ones went in no problems. Greased up everything and back on the road. What a difference having a tight front end again. Ball joints and sway bar are next.
