If I have to replace the half shafts what is the best way to go remanuf. or off brand new like from Rock Auto or any of the other discounters? Thanks

Are you sure it's grease? If the boots and bands are good they can't throw grease. Pin holes can throw grease and be hard to spot. If it is grease and the CVs seem good it is possible to rebuild them yourself. Napa has the boots and bands.

If it's thinner than normal grease it might be gear oil leaking from the axle seals.

Aaron thanks, and yes it is 100% grease and it is looking almost like new. Also there is no grease on the boots except at the end of boot right where it mates with the cv joint. Also the trajectory from where the grease collects on the surrounding parts points to this area at the cv joint. Also are you having any thoughts on the available replacement shafts in the market place.

I have no experience with replacement CVs on the Astros as I've rebuilt mine. On my wife's Jeep Liberty, the general consensus is to use the NAPA rebuilts. I'm assuming the ones for the Astro are just as good.

I bought a set of remans from Fleetpride. The core charge was more than the shafts.

Yeah, the core for the Liberty CVs is more than twice the shaft price.
