Tire Size Swap

Post by dobaroy »

We blew a tire on our '03 Safari AWD, the tire size 215/70/16 and cannot seem to get a good enough one to match it up . . . BUT we have a set of 225/70/16 brand new. We have heard it said we should not go up a size as it might cause damage to the trans. What is the consensus ? ?

Change 'em up!

Since you said "set", I assume you are talking all four. As long as you change them all, and are only going up one size, you won't have any problems... except for a slight decrease in performance and mileage. (Changing just a pair of tires on the front or rear can have a negative effect on your transfer case due to different rolling diameters. This you don't want to do!)

Thanks for the replies. Just wanted to make sure. After having 4 x 4s this is our first time to own an AWD.
