Heater fan problem

Heater fan problem
Since I got the van, the fan for the heater would always make a funny scraping sound when I turned it on. It would go away as soon as it got up to speed, so I never worried about it. Then, it suddenly got louder for just a moment, and the noise went away almost completely. Also, there doesn't seem to be as much force from the vents. I assume that the fan broke. How do I get to it?

Its under the hood on the passenger side of the firewall. The procedure for removal/replacement is in these forums.

I got a fan motor for $10 from the wreckers give that a shot.
1999 Safari Touring edition.

Bucket bench seats, Rear heat, Rear Airconditioning.
