Post by Fishfreek »

Could someone tell me where the temp sending unit is located on my 1999 Astro?

Thank you in advance.

Your year should have two, one on the LH cylinder head and one near the thermostat housing. One feeds the pcm and one feeds the gauge, you probably want the one near thermostat housing.

Later model '03-'05 (some '02?) X engines deleted thermostat area coolant temp sensor as gauge is is now pcm controlled.

Thank you, The pics help a lot.

I am hoping it is the one for the gauge. My gauge is stuck where the temp never drops below 200° even first thing in the morning on a cold start. I have a new thermostat and I can tell it is working so I am hoping it is this temp sensor.

If no code for faulty temp sensor and the gauge is malfunctioning, then the sensor on the head is the one you probably want.
