Water pump and fan clutch?

Post by spyboy »

getting ready to replace water pump and have noticed that sometimes the part houses have a note that you should replace fan clutch when replacing water pump any thoughts? as I read through some post I did not come across any mention of changing fan clutch with water pump. Thanks for your time guys. Have not needed to post anything in a while because my Astro has been wonderful!

I've replaced a couple water pumps, never replaced the fan clutch.

Unless it's malfunctioning, I wouldn't replace the fan clutch.

Hi,
You may want to take this repair time to also modify the composite fan shroud to be 2 pieces.
The large 1 piece shroud is difficult to remove and hard to re-install.
I cut my shroud down the middle with jig saw. Then use simple mending plate and 1/4" stainless pan head machine screw to make top rear shroud bracket. This bracket secures the top rear when shroud is re-installed.
