muffler question

There is a thin plate which is attatched to our oem mufflers, is this plate supposed to be on the top or bottom of our mufflers????????

This is the heat shield, correct Keith ? Been along time since I had an OEM muffler but, my guess is, it would go on top to shield heat from floor area.

precisely, they are also very good for making annoying vibration noises!
99 SLT Safari AWD, G80/GT4 rear, Burgundy, 196,000 and counting (strictly AMSOIL) flowmaster 40series muffler no more cat, K&N Kone Filter, roll pan, 255/60/15 rubbers mounted to 15x8.5 inch American Racing Tailgunner wheels, billet grille, CB Radio, Alpine Deck, Shag carpet, the list goes on....
03 Chevy Silverado 2500HD, LB7 Duramax Diesel, 5 speed Allison Tranny, Crew Cab Long Bed, no muffler or cat, 4 inch turbo back and side piped. not too many other mods yet, also addicted to AMSOIL.

Yep, I suspect what you are looking at is a heat shield. Goes on the top.

& yes they do (on occasion) make annoying noises.

Thanks boys I figured that was its purpose, I have just entered a new higher level of redneck repair BUT! the van is once again quiet, which is all that really matters :muhaha:

Just went through the same thing Keith. I've been caked in rust for days now! The one for my 98 didn't have a heat shield though. I think the later models had the shields on the body.
