96 astro , need pipe size

96 astro , need pipe size

i have to replace the cat on my wifes 96 astro , does anybody know the pipe size in & out of the cat converter ? it looks to be 3 " but with out cutting it i can't get an exact size .I can get a universal but just need to know what size pipe first .
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE.

Should be 3". The SPB as well the Y pipe off Peter's 97 are both 3"in/out.

wrap a piece of string around it, measure the string and divide by 3.14159. that'll give you the o.d. on the pipe.
not bad for public school math eh?
'89 Astro, 4.3L, TBI. Minor intake and exhaust mods. Rebuilt 700R4 trans (by me). Corvette servo, 0.5" boost valve, police grade 1-2 accumulator spring (shifts fast and solid). B&M stacked plate trans cooler. Bilstein shocks. Belltech sway bars front and back. New head unit, speakers and subwoofer. Needs paint and a new headliner.

Thanx for all your help guys , i bought an aftermarket cat online for a whopping 23$ delivered !!! had to a little cutting & welding but its in & working great .

Just beware, the cheap cats may only last for one year, you may have to fit another one for your next smog.

no smog test here darren just a visual & a plug in of the aldl port. to check for codes.

my cat is from eastern catalytic 45.00 and still goin strong for 4 years now. :yikes: .what thats about cheap ones.... :poke:
