I hope this is in the right spot....

Post by Fishfreek »

I am considering a 4wd conversion of my 2wd 1999 Astro. I have a local here that is selling off his 4wd parts of a 1999 Jeep Cherokee. He is doing a 2wd diesel conversion on his jeep.

Parts he has available are,

23 spline New process 231 J transfer case
1999 Jeep AW4 transmission
high pinion Dana front axle, complete springs, track bar, steering linkage, calipers and rotors

I was told these would be a great option for my conversion.

Any advise YES or NO

Thanks in advance

I don't think you will want any of those parts.

The transmission has no application... other than I suppose it bolts to the available transfer case.

The transfer case would likely work with an adapter for a GM transmission, but you can buy a transfer case from a GM for cheap.

I'm guessing you will find the front axle as being too narrow. As I recall, a perfect front axle is one out of a late 70s Ford full-size Bronco or F150. This will also be a Dana 44, much better than a stock 30 out of a Cherokee.

But don't give up on the conversion! And post lots of pics!

Thanks for the info. And quick reply. I was supposed to go today to take some measurements but I won't need to do that now.
