Odd Vibration

Post by dobaroy »

On our AWD '03 Safari, when we are in tight corners in a plaza, the van will give off a vibration that you can feel, even in the steering. Changed the rear end and transfer case fluid but that didn't work this time. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

Did you use the Auto Trac 2 fluid in the t-case? You may need to flush it again to get fresh fluid in all the clutches. They sometimes take 2 flushes if the fluid was really black and had a lot of miles on it.

x2 on the reflush.

I had to do it 3 times to get rid of the binding at parking lot speeds and tight cornering.

Thanks for the replies and yes we did use the Auto Trac II Fluid. It was approx. 25,000 miles between times we did the flush, but seems like we should do it again.

We changed the fluid for the second time and it came out real clean . . . no change, the shudder/vibration is still there (NOT CONSTANT just comes and goes) and even if you put the van in park, and that is with the wheels not turned to the left or right, you can still feel it in the steering wheel. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Might want to check out the motor mounts. While you feel the vibration, look under the van and in the engine compartment for any vibrations. Make sure the exhaust isn't rubbing on something as well.

X2 on the rubber engine and transmission mounts.
