replace the 4.3l in my 89 astro with a 4.3l vortec, advice p
I want to replace the 4.3l in my 89 astro with a 4.3l vortec. What is the best motor, and what all do I need from the donor vehicle. Has anyone else done this? I searched the forum without finding much info.

I wouldn't, The newer motors just get more complicated and we're not talking about a major HP gain. I'd rebuild or go V8.

the term 4.3 vortec is so broad and undefined.
What year engine are you talking about.
Are you planning to install the "vortec" in the 89 and use the 89 fuel and computer systems?
heads from 1996up use an 8 bolt pattern on the intake manifold different than 1995 or less, using 12.
You can easily adapt an 89 TBI unit to an after market performance or marine 4bbl manifold with an adapter plate, to use the TBI on a post 96 engine.
It isnt rocket science and is a good improvement over the older 89 heads.
I'm running a 1995 VIN W 'Vortec' in my 87 TBI van.
Good solid improvement, but the 95 vortec still uses the old 12 bolt pattern for the intake manifold....
