Finally! Back Bench Seats Rattle Fix

Post by slim724 »

My back bench seats have always rattled going down the road and over bumps when no one is in them. Looks like from the factory they used thin strips of clear 1mm tape on all the anchor cross shafts to help with the rattling. All of my tape strips were worn through, as well as the front rubber bushings used on the seats front attaching bracket, it was all metal to metal so my seats rattled pretty good, and drove me crazy. I tried replacing the factory tape but it would dig to the metal upon insertion of the seat and didn't last very long. I tried some extra hose I had lying around to wrap around the anchor points cross shafts but it was too thick and the seats wouldn't clamp in. Finally I noticed a spool of 7/32" vacuum tubing I had hanging on the wall and had forgot about, thought it would be too small to use but I tried it anyways. I cut 4 2inch pieces and split them own the side with a razor, pushed them over all 4 of the anchor point cross shafts and proceeded to drop the seats in. It was a tight fit but they locked in place, and the very annoying rattle is gone. Seriously, my van's solid factor has gone up by 10 just spending 15 minutes of my time.

Here is the vacuum tubing I used

My van didn't have anything on the cross shafts, but the hooks on the seat bases were lined with plastic. One of them chipped off so I stuck on a random piece rubber hose I found I found
