New Beast of Burden

Post by CaptSquid »

Well, new to me, anyway.

As many of you know, I am physically handicapped and require crutches and the use of a power scooter. Unfortunately, the company that installed the lift mechanism on the back of the Stro was less than worthless. The ONLY time that they surveyed and saw the van was the day the scooter and lift were delivered. Had he surveyed the vehicle, I wouldn't have near the problems I now have. Together, the scooter and lift weigh in at just around 500 lbs. In its own right, the van would be able to TOW this weight. But driving down the road, this is dead VERTICAL weight. As a result, the back 'frame' is being torn apart.

I had to get something more substantial in order to transport the scooter. Enter the Suburban.

It's a 93 K1500 4x4 with 2 previous owners. The body is straight with only one parking lot ding on it and it checks in at 238K miles. The motor has only 80K on the clock. It is set up with a Class III receiver hitch. The interior, FWIW, is relatively immaculate with 1 full bench seat and two rows of split bench seats, including the front. There are a bunch of rogue wires lurking about under the hood and behind the dash that will be relegated to the scrap heap. The blivet that installed the after-market stereo failed to get the antenna adapter, so I was getting spotty radio reception. I spread out the springs and I get decent radio now, but I'll still get the adapter. They removed the roof rails, but didn't fill in the holes. I'll probably get some rails from the JY. They added nerf bars, and they have GOT to go. They interfere with entrance and exit. The headlights and the front markers need polishing/replacement and I already have a kit for the polishing. The "chrome" is peeling off the grill, as well and the passenger mirror is looking for worms. Not bad for $1900.

Pix to follow when I can find a free area to do so.

Now to find a name for her. I'm leaning toward Flosshilde or Woglinde (Rhine maidens).
