New Cooper Discoverer STmaxx all terrains
LT245/75 E16.
I've been researching for months.
I've owned at least 3 sets of BFG ATs over the last 25 yrs or so, and I don't remember any dissatisfaction with them, I actually just got bored and wanted a different tire. I'm a quirky dude, yes.
Goodyear DuraTracs are pretty popular, but there is too much chatter about sidewall issues, both in magazines and Internet forums, and since Eastern Washington is sharp shale, I crossed them off my list.
Yokohama Geolanders were also at the top of my list. They seem to be great or very good at everything. Every single guy I have known that had finally worn out his Geolanders replaced them with another set of Geolanders. Not a single one went to a different tire.
Pirelli Scorpian ATRs ended up in my top two due to the following reasons:
My Pirelli trials tires outperforming knobbies on my enduro bikes. It looks like a street tire, and simply grips like mad off road.
And In a 9 tire Aussie Dirt Action off road AT test, it won the dirt slalom, and the hill climb/decent tests, and placed high in the mud run, even.
I also owned a set on my F150 job site truck and was blown away by how awesome they were in the snow on steep hills.
The Pirelli grips instead of digs. It really does amaze me.
It also placed 2nd in the puncture test.
Honestly, it would have been a perfect tire for my useage, but I simply wanted a more aggressive looking tire.
The STmaxx actually won the puncture test, has great reviews on consumers Reports and was 2nd overall on the Aussie test by half a point.
I absolutely love the philosophy and the look of the tread pattern.
Fwiw, Here's the results of the Aussie AT tyre test:

I don't see A/T 3 on the list. I got those tires about year ago and they are fantastic.
Not that aggressive as S/T maxx though, but I am very happy about them, because aggressive would mean lower mpg (which already is pretty bad) and more road noise (which I don't want)
P.S. Looks good!

Yeah they didn't take two different tires from any given manufacturer. I would have liked to see results for the Goodyear DuraTrac instead of Silent Armor, but oh well.

Re: New Cooper Discoverer STmaxx all terrains
Years ago I had a set of Pirelli A/Ts on my van. Loved them! I mainly used them in snow and they were unstoppable!
A few months back I needed new tires for my F-250. I ended up with a set of Cooper ATPs. While nowhere near as aggressive as the Pro-Comp M/Ts I had, I was looking for a better wearing tire and a good price point. Discount Tire made me an offer I couldn't refuse. I'm really happy with the snow performance of my new Coopers. I had them in mud last weekend and they certainly weren't as good as an M/T, but I didn't get stuck either, so I guess I have no complaints. I think these will be one of the better tire purchases I've made in recent years.

Re: New Cooper Discoverer STmaxx all terrains
I'm not sure. I get it once in a while when crossed up off roading. It sounds more metal on pulley, like the long cross bar that runs near the main pulley . But maybe it is the ps pump.
Re: New Cooper Discoverer STmaxx all terrains
Tom, Do I remember that you were running a spare set of TreadWright M/T? I notice some similar elements of the two, although the Coopers have some aggressive sidebiters, and most likely a tougher carcass, hence the puncture resistance. Look foreword to your trail running report. Thanks! D.

No, my muddies were Goodyear Wrangler MT's, also in the narrower 245/75 aspect.
ATs were (built for Discount Tire) Pathfinder AT's, in the 255/70.

We need to hookup so you can give me the Beta on Molybdenite. I'll buy.
