04 to 4x4? Which transfer case?

Post by arlon »

I have an 04 AWD and considering the swap to 2 speed transfer case. I've read so much on the swap. Some seem relatively simple and some seem quite complicated. Is there any model that play better than another going into an 04? Case out of a 2000 s-10 seems to come up a lot. Is this plug and play? Will the transmission of the 04 up shift on it's own in lo range? Read some run only in first gear in lo range? Some need cross member modifications. I figure there is probably a sticky that covers this, I just haven't found it yet.

Any tips on recognizing the right transfer case when I find one? If I have to pull one from a wreck what else do I want to look for to go with it?

See lifteds thread on his '03 swap, plug and play except for transmission gears in lowrange. You have to ground a terminal in the pcu for that. See my thread on 242 swap for info regarding that. I think all of that is in drivetrain under transfer case?
