Mom's 2000 Safari AWD

Post by GnarliSafari »

Was back in Wisconsin recently visiting family, drove Mom's 2000 Safari AWD, with 84,000 miles, a bit as Dad has been "bugging" me the last couple months about it acting up. When taking tight turns the rear wheels act as if they are working against one another, they even kinda squawk. I believe it has 3:23s and an open rear. Months ago I told him to flush the T Case and tranny, he had it done by dealer to keep OEM fluids or recommended upgrades, didn't help. Then I had him pull the ATC fuse to verify it was the rears, still did it. I noticed excessive amounts of fluid around rear diff, I think the seals bad. You think he either just needs a new seal/gasket and fluid? Or do you think his rear end is toast? Thanks in advance for any thoughts!

If you are still there, flush the t-case again. I wonder if the dealer actually did it. The rear diff leak needs to be addressed ASAP before he has to completely rebuild it.

He is friends with the shop manager at the local dealer I think they know better than to play games with my dad. But yeah I'm leaning towards it being the rears lack of fluid, back in Oregon myself, but I will relay the insight toy dad. Thanks again!
