thinking of getting a newer van

Post by justice »

I would really like to get a 2005 cargo, but the money just aint there so I have been looking at some older cargos

how do this deal look? 1997 cargo

I like that it has the cage and the security screens on the windows. I would prefer a windowless slider but beggars cant be choosers i guess.

or maybe this one - i would have to get rid of the ladder rack and bins on the inside though..don't want those.

I lean towards the 2000. Newer van. Less miles. Beat them up on the price.

I agree with Skip, beat them down some on the price for the 2000. Newer, 50k less miles and looks a little less beat up. You ca recoup a few dollars selling the bins and ladder rack.

I personally would go check out that 97 the miner damage to slider and normally front wheel well rust definitely got my attention so i'd go over it with a fine tooth comb. Lifted does have a good point though selling the ladder rack and bins plus barter them down a little could get you a sweet deal, less mileage on the transmission is also a good thing

when i bought my truck it had an 80 gallon transfer tank in the bed that i thought hey i could sell this no problem... not always the case. why do you want a cargo if you dont want the bins or rack? the 2000 isnt really even a cargo as its got windows.
99 SLT Safari AWD, G80/GT4 rear, Burgundy, 196,000 and counting (strictly AMSOIL) flowmaster 40series muffler no more cat, K&N Kone Filter, roll pan, 255/60/15 rubbers mounted to 15x8.5 inch American Racing Tailgunner wheels, billet grille, CB Radio, Alpine Deck, Shag carpet, the list goes on....
03 Chevy Silverado 2500HD, LB7 Duramax Diesel, 5 speed Allison Tranny, Crew Cab Long Bed, no muffler or cat, 4 inch turbo back and side piped. not too many other mods yet, also addicted to AMSOIL.

one reason i'm leaning towards the 97, i don't want to have to deal with trying to sell the ladder rack or bins.

The reason i want a cargo, is that I carry a lot of band gear and a cargo van is better for that then a passenger van. The 97 has the divider and security screens on the windows that would make the gear that much more secure.

97 seems more fitting for your needs, will this be driven daily? it doesnt have that high of miles and seems 97 was a pretty good year, may cost you a little more in the long run with repairs but then again it may not. keep the extra money you would be spending on the 97 set aside for emergency repairs as either one is bound to have a problem here or there eventually, its murphy's law. dont just assume spending a little more on a slightly newer vehicle actually will mean its less prone to break down.
