Mechanic Recommendations in SF Bay Area?

Post by steveca » Sat Dec 23, 2017 6:07 am

I have a 2005 AWD Astro I use as my snow monster and dirtbike/camping vehicle. Unfortunately it has begun to have a lot of problems and I don't have the time or tools to address them myself.

I haven't been happy with my mechanic I have been using and I'm looking for someone with a lot of Astro Van experience.
Does anyone know of a a solid mechanic with Astro experience that is in the SF Bay Area?

Some things I'd like him/her to do:
  • Replace the engine with a crate/rebuilt engine - current mechanic says "it spits out coolant"
    new coolant hose
    new brakes
    rebuild transmission
troubleshoot and fix an exhaust leak
replace suspension as suspension is shot. Give it a 2" suspension lift also.
Glue rear bumper plastic back on - A porche smashed into it :(
    Replace driver door lock
    Fix automatic door locks
This is my second Astro and I have fallen in love with them and it is the perfect car for my lifestyle. Unfortunately in the Bay Area where I live they are rather expensive. A used Astro with AWD and $150k goes for ~$6k around here.
I figure it would be about the same to fix my Astro and have a much more reliable vehicle moving forward.

If you know of a solid mechanic that may be able to assist please let me know.

Thanks!

Hi Steve,

Did you ever find a San Francisco-based mechanic for your Astro you like? I'm in the same boat! I've had my Astro for a little over 2 years and really like it, but she needs some attention I can't give her.

I'd love to know if you found someone!

Thanks,
Craig
