Just testing the waters here guys.
I bought this Astro used and did the camper conversion about 3 years ago.
I LOVE MY VAN, but the family is getting larger, and I'm starting to get the itch to build something new.
So... maybe I'll let it go to a new home if the price is right?

2005 AWD Astro with about 125,000miles
Seats 5 (with seat belts)
Meaty All-Terrain knock-offs (15,000mi) on the sexy 6-lug aluminum wheels
Full-sized matching aluminum spare
5 gallon Jerry can on custom back rack
2" hitch
Roof rack
New radiator
New serpentine belt and idler pulley
New transfer case servo motor and fresh AC Delco fluid
New upper ball joints and sway bar bushings
New shocks all around
New driver's CV and seals
Oil and filters changed regularly
Anti-lock brake system fixed

Had rear AC and heat, but removed for camper conversion.
Yes, AC (front) STILL WORKS!!!!! I had a pro weld the lines to the rear, and they do not leak.

Camper Conversion:
Swivels on both front seats
Bench seat lays flat with 2 cushion sections to make full 50" wide by 72" long bed
Second battery with disconnect and proper breakers (front and rear)
Insulating curtains/covers for all windows (HUUUUGE help in the cold)
Cabinetry with fold-out table
Table lays across front seats for a kid-sized bed (see images)
Pull-out propane 2-burner stove
Mini gas tank on back with about 5gal of propane (? lasts me 2 seasons)
Small sink with 5 gallon water tank and electric pump
Small electric cooler/fridge
Electric exhaust ceiling van
Interior lights are all LED and run off second battery
Fold-out sun shade on the side (see pics- very neat unit)
Sliding side window with screen (screen not installed currently)
Additional power outlets (DC), fire extinguisher, shelving/nooks
Camping plates, cups, flatware, utensils
Pull-out carpet for easy cleaning

The good:
Great van. Pulls hard. Doesn't burn or leak anything. AWD is quite capable in mud and snow.
15-20 mpg highway. Pulled a 2,500lbs trailer in that range too.
Layout works perfectly as a camper for 1 or 2 guys.

The bad:
Size worked okay for a family of 3, but a little tight for a family of 4.
Dip stick is broken in half. Weird problem. I diagnosed and posted about it on an Astro forum recently. Haven't had time to fix it- not dangerous to engine.
Arm rest on the driver's captain chair just broke. I was dancing to music and snap. Damn.
Steering wheel points a little to the left when going straight.
Windshield cracked (I will will try to fix this soon)
The typical rattles and jiggles of an American truck platform
She is very dirty

The ugly:
Nothing. Strong vehicle. I love her and it will kill me (and my boy) to see it go.

So would anyone be interested in buying my Astro camper? (Family not included)
What is this worth?
Email me at crxnine@gmail.com
I live in northern Alabama.
Not in a rush to move it.

Below are some pics.
These are just from my family outings.
If there is interest I'll take more detailed photos.

That's a great looking package!

I'd love to see more of your cabinetry.

Good luck with sale. :D

Thanks herbie for the compliment.
I think I remember your posts serving as inspiration and resource for me as I was putting it together.
So, in a way, you're complimenting your own work ;)

What's my baby worth?

Nice rig, I like what you did for sleeping solutions and cabnitry.

As to value.... It is really hard and requires patiently waiting for someone who appreciates it. I am guessing here that A stock versoin of this van would be $3500 - $4500 so if you were patient would be $5000-$6000 ...... What do others think. This is so hard be cause it is custom and really cool but does have a limited group of people looking for it.

Ps nice Rocky Mountain Element!

Great looking photos! Looks like you've had some nice times!
Hard to believe you'd sell this.

Curios: I notice in one photo your sleeping on a mattress on the floor... and in another it looks like you are sleeping above the floor?

TGWMNS please tell me about that window I see on the drivers side rear. I looks like a stock shape but with a slider and screen.... I have been dreaming about that forever. Can you point me toward some pictures of that and any other info you have?

Ryan

Sure guys,

The window is a CR Lawrence "drop in replacement". Try to find it here:
http://www.crlaurence.com/crlapps/showl ... 587::21889

I think it was a VW60279L. I found it on amazon, but that was 3-4 years ago.
Searching again, this might be it here:
https://www.amazon.com/LAURENCE-VW60279 ... B000K42IPG

It was by no means a drop in replacement. It was a total PITA. The hole was far too large, and I had to weld in steel to make it smaller so it would even mount. But the body panels were dip-treated or seam bonded, so the metal was filled with something that would evaporate as soon as I struck an arc. It was a rough weekend. Budget the window plus at least a 24 pack of beer.

Would be awesome if you posted a review on amazon with pictures and letting people know that it doesn't fit.

I have a ton of questions about the awning/sun shade.

[*]Who makes it/where can I get it? (if you made it, do you have plans?)
[*]Any link on info for it?
[*]Any comments about it? How does it hold up in the wind and rain?

http://www.shadyboy.com/

I've seen them on a few rigs. I'll let actual owners comment on them, but from my observations the primary plus seems to be that it's simple and light. The potential negative is that since the structure is so lightweight, I'm not sure how it would deal with heavy rain.

Our ARB awning shed quite a bit of rain at this weekends campout, and being able to configure which corner to drop and have the runoff go where I wanted it was really nice!
