1990-1994 and 1995-2002 unit bearing differences

Post by rlsllc »

Does anyone know exactly what is different between the two?

It looks to me that the ABS wiring is the only difference.

I ask because I am getting a set of 35" torsion bars from the wreckers for $25 each from an 03, and he has a left front unit bearing from a 1999 for $30, so I wondered if it would be possible to use it on my 1991.

I don't have working ABS anyway, so I don't care about it.

I may just buy it to try and shelf it as a spare for my '99 if it doesn't work.

A few interchanges:(my research, if I'm wrong, let me know)

Knuckles: '90-'91; '92-'94; '95-'02; '03-'05. '90-'02 seem to interchange with the K1500 series 4x4s to some degree, at least up to the 98 1500s, same years otherwise interchange.

Hub bearings:'90-'94; '95-'02; '03-'05

c/v shafts, '90-'96; '97-'02; '03-'05

So, I'm thinking that the 1999 bearing won't work on my 1991, ABS or not. There is only one way to find out, and it may be worth $30 to satisfy my curiosity.

The knuckle thing makes me wonder if the K1500 bearing would let you run 6 lug wheels on the front of older vans. I'll bet that the axle shafts have a different size or spline count, though.

Why not save yourself some money by asking your local parts guy about the interchangability? \:D/

I don't have a parts guy, most auto part stores here are a joke. The thing is, they don't interchange, but that doesn't mean it won't work. I still think the ABS is the difference.

Kind of like the K2500 calipers and 11" drum brakes. And 2 speed T-cases. And Mustang racks...
