long crank when cold, hard start

Post by LaGrasta »

I have no codes, but fairly often, the '98 cranks for nearly 20 seconds in the morning until it fires, and runs perfect the remainder of the day. I swapped the crankshaft sensor thinking that was the problem, and it was only okay for a week or so. I checked fuel pressure and it was good and held pressure as well. Suggestions?

recent tune up, new dizzy replaced and even smoked last month with a new convertor.

This morning, first try, starts right up. Intermitted problems are the worse!

It's interesting that the crankshaft sensor "cured the problem for a week a so".. then the problem came back?
Normally I would think if this fixed it once, then replacing it again would fix it again?

Oddly, you also claimed the fuel pressure was "good", yet the fuel pump eventually turned out to be the problem?

I'm glad despite all this "diagnosis".. you were able to fix the problem.
Yes.. intermittents can sure be fun! :yawinkle:

I agree, thus my being so confused chasing the problem. My guess is being intermediate, what I thought fixed it or the correct fuel pressure was temporary deceit.

Ah, so frustrating! It wouldn't start this morning, just cranked and cranked.

I finally took it to a shop, they replaced my distributor. I had just replaced it 6,000 miles ago. Granted it was an Amazon brand, but it had the very best ratings.
$150 shop fee and $50 for yet, another Amozon brand dizzy. Different brand though, still the highest ratings.
