Re: G80 & GT4 for 2004 AWD Astro Conversion

Quote: I just picked up my Astro Quattro from the shop. I ended up going with Yukon 3.73 Ring and Pinions that don't appear to make any additional noise. This is with the the Truetrac in the rear and the MFactory in the front. The front torsion is mounted in the stock aluminum casing Just a minor er...

Re: NP 233 spline count appears to be 32 in and out

If by Blazer, you mean S-10 Blazer, then the doner vehicle also has the same 7.2 front diff. If you go back for the front prop shaft you can take measurements of yours before you go. If the shafts are the same length take the Blazer front diff yoke also. Then you can simply swap yokes and good to go

Re: Safari SLE upgrade-speaker question

Still following! So I’m here to admit that I am an audiophile Sarg. Schultz - I know nothing NOTHING! I do appreciate good sound though so I am truly interested in how you end up re-speakering your van. Do you have a ball park $$ amount for what you’re looking at?

Re: Safari SLE upgrade-speaker question

I was just looking at speaker sets for my van at Crutchfield inc. but I think I will watch with great interest as you explore options for what appears to be amazing sound in your van.

Re: Front diff swap

I copied lumpdog on that one. He used rectangular steel tubing for his lift, 3”x5” iirc. I used 2”x3” because I had a chunk leaning against the shed and didn’t need to do the steering shaft. I drilled straight thu and then drilled another hole 1/2” forward on just one side. Deburring tool to dress i...

Re: Rear shock re mount

Ya it’s not a game changer either way but I’ve always hated having those things dangling under the van. It’s a cleaner look and a simple job so I did it. Wheeling here in NE. it’s the tree stumps that kill ya. You hit a rock and it’ll slide, you hit a stump and your backing up and changing your line...

Re: Front diff swap

It is a HUGE help having access to such a fine work space. Just about every tool, torches, welding you name it. I’m sad to hear your getting away from the astro scene but you’ve been a stalwart member of the society for many years and no one could blame you for calling it a day. I would LOVE to talk...

Re: Rear shock re mount

I cut and folded mine. I can’t see how two shocks designed to travel can have much if any effect on the rear axle wrap situation. I’m putting my money on the extra leaf of the S-10 pack to keep everything in line

Re: Front diff swap

Thanks Matt! I’m really pushing to get this one done. My 99 test mule never had the chance to roll down the street as a complete vehicle. I was so busy trying different and unique things like the first np236 swap and the first Torsen front diff that I didn’t pay any attention to corrosion control. N...

Re: Front diff swap

Thanks I’ll tell my brother you said so! I am very fortunate to have a brother in the biz. He keeps a very nice shop and is kind enough to let me wrench all weekend as long as I clean up after myself. Half a mile from the house, LAPS across the street next to the pizza house which is kitty corner to...

Re: Front diff swap

So the work continues... The S-10 springs are in and 2” body lift with just 1/2” forward slide for tire clearance. I will be increasing the lift and forward slide in the next stage but I needed to get going. I needed tires desperately and couldn’t wait til I had everything perfect so I’ll put this s...

Rack and pinion? Quite an undertaking and I wish you well. I’m strictly a swap and bolt kind of guy and have always marveled at those with fab skills. I can’t wait to see the finished product!
