I think that depends a bit on how much clearance you currently have with your particular spring setup.
I would not plan on reducing the available travel, to any less than the original factory amount.

Re: Gross misfire when trailer lights connected and lights o
Tom, I have one significant question before going into 'possibilities'? Does this problem only happen when towing the trailer; but is not a problem when driving just the van? Or has it always been a problem since the episode with the trailer? My gut feeling is that for some reason the system voltage...

Is that dual exhaust through the rear bumper?
I've never seen that.

Re: Skid plates, cross bars , Uni strut brackets
In some industrial applications with steel decking, those self-tapping screws sometimes work loose, so keep a close eye on them. You do not want to find one in a tire! And what's with the comment about rubber gaskets so the aluminum does not get scratched...on a skid pan?? Me thinks if possible scra...

Re: Astro mechanic
I agree the electric mirror control switches are pretty strange, and the mounting design is just plain fragile. They are most often found broken, or the mounts in the door panels are broken, so the switch falls down inside the door trim panel.....like mine. I am probably going to have to fabricate s...

Looking for opinions on non0open rear differentils
I want to install some sort of a limited slip rear end in my '98 AWD Astro, and I do not want the original G80 style 'Gov-Loc' version, which I understand to be somewhat unreliable and requires a fair amount of axle speed differential to be useful. The used Torsen diff I purchased, after disassembly...

Re: Can somebody walk me through a cylinder leakdown test?
Welcome, and congratulations on having the ambition and going a step farther with the tool purchase. I used to use a leakdown test quite a bit when I was wrenching for a living. It expensive at the time ( 30+ years ago) but still an inexpensive model, compared to the professional versions. I always ...

Re: Rear ride height etc
Bump stops: Today I noticed that my spare rear axle assembly has nearly new triangular black rubber bump stops, so I can use them and save a few $$. They are about 1/2 inch taller than my one intact original, but I do not think that will be an issue for me, and I am planing to redo the rear springs ...

Re: Electric mirror failure diagnosis.
Today, I placed clip leads and an ammeter across the blown fuses to test the mirror motors and circuitry. It all works, and is not drawing more current than expected, so I have no idea why the fuses were bad. I know I have the exact replacement fuses here someplace (they are 1A Micro fuses with axia...

Re: Rear ride height etc
Well, I finally found the the answer. It is called 'Trim Height' and the spec for 'Trim Height' in my factory '98 manual, is in the Suspension section ( Pg 3-3 ), right after the Suspension chapter index. In the rear it is measured from the top of the axle tube to the bottom of the frame. For AWD ( ...

Electric mirror failure diagnosis.
Another episode in my journey of minor annoyance repairs. Neither of my electric mirrors ('98 LS) are working, so it was a convenient time to dig into the problem. Fuse #3 under the left dash has power, so head to the master mirror switch on the driver door panel. There was no power there. BUT, I no...

Re: Steering, missing suspension, and oil leaks
Astrophysics, I just looked at a few pictures of some of the Jeep setups. They use a link that has an eye on one end (fits over a horizontal stud), and a 90 deg. spherical rod end ( it looks like that at least) on the other end. Some of the more serious guys convert and use real Heim Joints on both ...

Re: Steering, missing suspension, and oil leaks
Oh, I am sure sway bar disconnects could be added, but at what effort?
On the 'real' Jeeps, without all that front end sheet metal, I suspect they are a bit easier to get to.
On our AWD vans they are pretty well buried.
My new links came today, from Rock Auto.

Steering, missing suspension, and oil leaks
I recently had a new steering box installed and the sloppy steering, is MUCH improved; but is now a bit stiff, and self centering does not happen. The alignment was set with the Caster a bit to the higher side of tolerances, per my request. I still have a little bit of wiggle in the steering wheel, ...

Re: Overhead console lamp replacement?
Herbie, Thank you very much for that link. I don't know why I did not find that U-tube video....I thought it should be a very simple task, but didn't see the way to get that lens out, and so I thought the whole lamp might have to come down. I have broken several small plastic parts in my efforts to ...
