Re: Oh boy, engine won't rev.

Google <- great thing. MIL= Malfunction Indicator Lamp I can't remember what it looks like on the Astro ... orange engine symbol? OBD can be a great help. Scan for stored engine codes, make sure sensors are giving good readings, make sure knock retard is OK. Like I said, the ignitions system would b...

Re: 2004 engine cover removal?

I've done it without, but then you still don't have room to work

Unbolting the seat takes 5 mins at most with the right tools, and you shouldn't need to get in there very often. I think I did twice in 175,000 km.

Re: Oh boy, engine won't rev.

You need to tell us what you're driving. Did the MIL come on?
Lack of power/stumbling can be fuel delivery or ignition. Check fuel pressure and ignition system.

Re: Front end rebuild...am I crazy?

I'm looking at entire control arms (new forged and painted metal with two bushings + ball-joint.) for your 2003 AWD on Rockauto and they cost from $32 and up. It's a no brainer.

Re: Front end rebuild...am I crazy?

Be careful with the torsion bars. There's a lot of tension in those and I imagine it could hurl a tool at you pretty fast. They can be rusted in there pretty good too. http://astrosafarivans.org/bb2/viewtopic.php?f=67&t=9218 http://astrosafarivans.org/bb2/viewtopic.php?f=67&t=9599 I'm not sure about...

Fresh off the Youtubes. It's an Astro revival.

Re: 7.5 " 10 bolt Chevy 98 to 2002 rear axle

I'm pretty sure these vans only ever came with Gov-loc units. They have a clutch pack and cam plate, so it shouldn't engage with bang if you accelerate normally. Obviously slamming on the gas is going to shock load it and it will not last very long then. It got me out of situations where a rear whee...

Oh shoot, you're right. Haha I forgot we were talking about Astros which have 7.6" units in the rear. I keep thinking of my current Savana which has a 8.6" rear. But the front is 7.6" I think.

Re: G80 & GT4 for 2004 AWD Astro Conversion

Interesting. I had no idea GM equipped them.

Not that the Firebird one is useful to use vanners. It's too small.

But are you sure GM made them. I would think they bought them from JTEKT/Zexel corp.

Re: G80 & GT4 for 2004 AWD Astro Conversion

Trutrac is the name of the differential I think. Made by Eaton. I don't think GM makes torsen style diffs. I had HD springs on my Astro and I'm really glad I did. They are much needed in my opinion because the handling is much better. Before I had them the van would wallow all over the place. I only...
