Re: Transfer case question

Should be able to spin the front drive shaft or the front output of the transfer case freely with the vehicle off. Can you? If you have the front drive shaft off, remove the encoder motor and check to see if the shaft is pointing from driver to passenger. If not you shaft may be stuck. You can try t...

Re: Transfer case from 1994 Chevy K2500 Diesel

The 4L80E will bolt right up to the 4.3. I know the 4L80E is longer so you would have to do some transmission mount work. I think the spline my be 32 instead of 27 so ad in drive line considerations front and back?. The spline difference will also come into play when using the transfer case from the...

Re: Transfer case slipping; van creeping in park

The viscous fluid can leak out do to expansion from overheating(boiling as they call it). There is no way to refill this unit for a consumer. Once enough has leaked out you will not have any power transferred to the front which is what happened in your case. The transfer case needs the thickness of ...

Re: Transfer case slipping; van creeping in park

First check and see if your front drive shaft is still there. If it is I would say your viscous fluid in your transfer case is toast. This creeping problem is known to happen on the years before 99 because the input and output shafts of the transfer case are of a two piece design. Missing front driv...

Re: Crank fuse - what cause to blow?

First thing I will ask is when you are/were having the cranking issue, did you ever try to crank when in neutral? Fuse #8 is between the start switch of the key and the shift position switch which is on or in the transmission. From there it goes to the starter relay in the fuse center under the hood...

Re: Blower motor won't shut off - ever

There is a "Blower Motor Resistor and Relay Pack" under the hood, the relay in the pack is probably stuck on. The relay is connected to an underhood AC fuse that is hot at all times.

Re: Fuse Box

Does anyone have a layout diagram for the fuse boxes on a 98 Stro? My knees are shot and I'd like to know what to look for before I wreak havoc on them. TIA Have you looked at the 98 owners manual? It has a simple layout explaining the fuses. Pages 6-62 through 6-65. The owners manual is free in .p...

Re: When buying a van (99 Astro awd) what to look for?

I tested my AWD in the gravel before I bought it to make sure the AWD system worked. Try tight turns to see if there is any kind of binding during the turns. Check for same tire size front to back and even wear. I had to replace my radiator but that is not uncommon with any vehicle of that age. Your...
