Re: Hate to be right but... am I right?

Portland Maine not Oregon. His mom would never let her baby get that far away from her on his first foray into the world! It’s still a six hr drive so I’m really gonna feel it in fuel economy loss When I go tall on the tires but what the hell these things suck mileage wise no matter what especially ...

Re: Hate to be right but... am I right?

Happy Father’s Day to you as well. Coolest job I ever had, well maybe the time I was security for exotic dancers but I digress. Had my first kid at forty so I get to go from proud grad dad to retired in the same week. Oh wait you want to go to college WHERE!?! Ok retirements back on the shelf. Let’s...

Tap on your user name at the top right of the page. Tap on user control panel. Tap on board preferences. Set all options in all four categories. The final one is the one that will have you notified by email that you have a message Thanks I have two sons. Oldest will be a jr. when he returns to CCSU ...

Re: Hate to be right but... am I right?

No problem I’ll get busy pulling parts. The housing and whatnot won’t be a problem. You just replaced the blower motor so do you want a spare? I can’t pull the ac compressor as I still need to be able to start the van and move it. It’s graduation week so it may be next week before I can dedicate any...

Re: S10 front axle swap

I know this is an old thread but I’d just like to clarify that GM did pair the two piece axle and the np236 transfer case so clutch pack wear shouldn’t be an issue

Re: 7.5 " 10 bolt Chevy 98 to 2002 rear axle

Hi, Saw a you tube video of G80 Torson type gear limited slip rear axle being OEM in Chevy Camero. So Astro posi was Eaton with friction plates. Supposedly, friction plates are quieter and may corner better but Torso is stronger? AP It seems that G80 meant different things in different vehicles. G8...

Re: Hate to be right but... am I right?

I’m junking my 99. Make a list of what you need and I’ll put it all in a box. Also you need to be wary of rubber tubing when dealing with vacuum. It can collapse on itself. They used that hard plastic for a reason

Re: Cladding swap?

I had the chance to put the van on a lift Sunday and tore into removing the running boards. I can tell you that these things were in NO danger of falling off! The number of screws, rivets, brackets and hangers was ridiculous. When I finally did get them off I had a mini heart attack as there was a b...

Re: G80 & GT4 for 2004 AWD Astro Conversion

GM put Torsen carriers in the Camaro and Firebird from 1999-2002 IIRC. You are right that GM did not actually build the units. That was done by either JTEKT or Eaton. Both the Camaro and the Firebird sported the 7.625 rear so we do share carriers with them. The offset and width is different so swapp...

Re: G80 & GT4 for 2004 AWD Astro Conversion

Trutrac is the name of the differential I think. Made by Eaton. I don't think GM makes torsen style diffs. I had HD springs on my Astro and I'm really glad I did. They are much needed in my opinion because the handling is much better. Before I had them the van would wallow all over the place. I onl...

Sounds like a not to be missed event! 6,000 mile round trip is a non starter for me though.
Maybe an east coast event would be just the thing? I’m not signing up to organize I’m just here to antagonize :supz:

Re: G80 & GT4 for 2004 AWD Astro Conversion

Very cool, I’m sure you will love the Torsen and how mild mannered it is. You’ll probably end up cursing me as you start fixating on “ if one is this good-two must be amazing” process. I’ll rummage around and get back to you ASAP. The nice thing about the S-10 springs is you gain lift due to the add...

Cladding swap?

I’ve recently picked up a 2003 Safari SLT AWD to replace my trusty rusty 99 test mule. The 03 came with running boards while the 99 SLE did not. I need to lose the running boards to make room for rock sliders so I’m looking to swap the cladding off the 99 onto the 03. Anyone know if all the parts ar...

Re: G80 & GT4 for 2004 AWD Astro Conversion

Glad your van took good care of you on your latest excursion. Thanks for the pics-looks like an awesome time. As for which springs, that can be tricky. Used can be fine unless the truck belonged to a landscaper who overloaded the truck and ran it on the bump stops on a daily basis. Odds are you will...
