Re: Northwest Overland Rally 6/20-6/23/2019

Sounds like a not to be missed event! 6,000 mile round trip is a non starter for me though.
Maybe an east coast event would be just the thing? I’m not signing up to organize I’m just here to antagonize :supz:

Re: G80 & GT4 for 2004 AWD Astro Conversion

Very cool, I’m sure you will love the Torsen and how mild mannered it is. You’ll probably end up cursing me as you start fixating on “ if one is this good-two must be amazing” process. I’ll rummage around and get back to you ASAP. The nice thing about the S-10 springs is you gain lift due to the add...

Cladding swap?

I’ve recently picked up a 2003 Safari SLT AWD to replace my trusty rusty 99 test mule. The 03 came with running boards while the 99 SLE did not. I need to lose the running boards to make room for rock sliders so I’m looking to swap the cladding off the 99 onto the 03. Anyone know if all the parts ar...

Re: G80 & GT4 for 2004 AWD Astro Conversion

Glad your van took good care of you on your latest excursion. Thanks for the pics-looks like an awesome time. As for which springs, that can be tricky. Used can be fine unless the truck belonged to a landscaper who overloaded the truck and ran it on the bump stops on a daily basis. Odds are you will...

Re: AWD 2000 motor mounts

Nice write up! I also love working on cardboard as I have no hair on my head to pad the back of my skull from those little driveway pebbles.

You could also get a Jeep solid axle kit from JOR Journeys Off aRoad in Prescott , AZ.

Perhaps, They could weld it into the 2 WD Astro.
Call Mike at JOR. 928 925-2360, to chat with him.

It’s all possible. Set up for the swap or expand your search and find what you want. It’s out there, sometimes patience is a good thing

Re: G80 & GT4 for 2004 AWD Astro Conversion

Captn. Crunch, I may have found a unicorn. It's a 2004 Chevy Blazer (89k) with "high wider performance package (opt ZR2), transfer case opt NP1 (3 switch dash control), AT (3.73 ratio, opt GT4)." Looks like I can grab the transfer case from it as well. I still need to do the magnet test. Interestin...

Re: Van locked up/died in parking spot

[quote] I went out to raise the front, turn it on and spin the front wheels to check to see if the brakes were definitely preengaging (not sure if I checked with engine on last time, and mechanic asked me to check). But first I said to myself "just give it a try; maybe it will work." for some reason...

The AstroSafari gods have smiled on you-you are the chosen one! Top off the brake fluid before you drive it. Leave extra space for stopping good luck

Re: Van locked up/died in parking spot

You’re in a tough spot for sure and we all want to see you succeed. Wow-forbidden from wrenching?!? I guess that makes sense or anarchy will prevail and there will be the sound of air tools at 2am and engine hoists and big block swaps but order must be maintained for the greater good. That’s the tou...

Re: Van locked up/died in parking spot

Just performed the test on my van. Engine off, pump brake pedal. Hold pedal down. Start engine. Pedal drops and softens slightly. According to the test we both have good hydroboost units
