Re: s10 unlocking axle

Hey snowgeek You can use your diff. There is no difference in the diffs when comparing same years but different vehicles. There were some bearing changes that accompanied axle changes through the years such as when they went from flanged axles to slip in’s. You can use flanged axles in late model di...

Re: Terrain Tough Xtreme Ball Joints for my lifted 95

After a bit of trial and error, I ended up using a small diameter grinding wheel to remove the rivet tops. A whack with a hammer and punch finished the job. After one or two I had it down to a couple of minutes per rivet. On a different note: akforce... how does your van like breathing through a sno...

Re: Terrain Tough Xtreme Ball Joints for my lifted 95

I can vouch for the lack of joy that accompanies stock ball joint removal. At least I didn’t suffer through mine alone as I did mine during the Torsen equipped cast iron diff swap with Rinny by my side. I’ll be making a note of these ball joints though.

Nice find- those certainly look burly enough. Let us know how installation goes.

Re: 2000 column shift linkage problem

I’m a firm believer in that before you are allowed to be a automotive design engineer you need to have five yrs. as a mechanic!! I most assuredly wasn’t giving you a hard time, just dropping a pearl of wisdom my dad taught me in the hopes that it helps someone who’s dropped by and reads this thread....

Re: 2000 column shift linkage problem

Steering column is actually a part I have never messed with. Sooo following. I guess this is where someone is supposed to say “ if you’d taken a minute to investigate the original symptom.. bla bla bla” Sorry I can’t help on this one but give a fresh look at what it’s gonna take to swap out the column

Re: G80 vs Truetrac

While the Detroit Truetrac is the cats meow right now, don’t forget that GM put thousands and thousands of Eaton zexel Torsen units in firebirds and Camaros for decades. Keep an eye out on eBay. I got my first one there for like $80. Served me well for years.

Re: Is the 4.3L an 'Interferrence' motor

Good point-good info. I’ve always been a draft horse vs. a thoroughbred race horse kind of guy. High compression leads to premium fuel and zero clearance. If I had money to spend on making hp. I’d be putting turbos on low compression big blocks. I remember watching a car show on the tv where they pu...

Re: G80 vs Truetrac

I have no problem with the G-80. It does what it does. The van moved forward as it s supposed to. It went sideways as a locker/limited slip is supposed to. In normal driving scenarios it acts entirely proper. My normal seems to be more towards to outer edge of the envelope than most as it states in ...

G80 vs Truetrac

As some of you may remember, my last van was equipped with Torsen carriers front and rear. When road cancer ate my beloved test mule to the bone, I found it’s replacement. My latest van is the spitting image of my ‘99. It’s four years newer with leather so it’s a bit of an upgrade. They both sported...

Thanks!
I’ve never understood why someone would design something like a zero clearance engine when you don’t have to. Things break-design it to live to fight another day.

Re: Is the 4.3L an 'Interferrence' motor

Search Results Featured snippet from the web The GM 4.3L v6 is a non-interference engine in that the valves open into reliefs cut into the pistons such that they will not contact the piston even if the valve is open to max lift with the piston at TDC. As such, if the timing chain has broken, turning...

Re: Hitch for '03 Cargo

Exactly right. Either way you will be fine. I can’t recall anyone ever tearing their hitch off their van. Just make sure to re-torque your hardware after your first use.
