Re: DIY lift kit 2003 Safari

There's a thread about a 3+1 lift on here or the other Astro/Safari forum. That's 3" pucks and 1" torsion bar crank. I did a 2+2 lift but if I had it to do over again I would go 3+1. Less cranking of the torsion bars gives a better ride. Btw, I used rear leafs from SDTruckSprings.com and t...

Your mom sounds like a real character. That's great.

Yeah the Photobucket thing. Ugh. Felt like they really screwed everybody. That's why I have no issue posting up a workaround. Glad it helped you.

Re: NP236/246 hybrid build

racr you say, "The front output shaft shown above the planetary on the right is from the 246 and will NOT fit in the 236/136 case. It uses different sized bearings not compatible with the 236/136 cases."

So did you have to swap the 236 front output shaft onto the 246 planetary?

racrx7, Capn, Snowgeek, awesome info. Thank you for all your time and energy! For those unable to see images, someone on Expo posted plug-ins for Firefox and Chrome that fix the Photobucket problem: http://forum.expeditionportal.com/threads/177041-Firefox-and-google-chrome-plug-ins-so-you-can-see-qu...

Re: anyone here been through a California refferee station?

Gabequest, you have an '04 with a 5.7 out of a '99 Suburban, right? How did it go with the referee? Darren Cole (SoCali V8) said, "The engine swap law in KarliFornia is the motor must be the same year as the vehicle or newer, and retain all its smog equipment that must work, including the check...

Thanks PV, thanks Strover. BTW Strover, I went with the Ranchos. An awesome shop in Santa Rosa called Yodaman agreed with your recommendation. Said they were much better than Bilsteins. And he sells both.

Re: Shock mounts, Bilstein HDs, wheels & tires for 4" lift?

Photo_Van, when you drilled and cut the shock mounts, what did you do with the brake line that's bolted to the back of the passenger side mount? Did you cut it off just below the bolt, leaving about 1/2" of the tab hanging below the axle? Or did you remount the brake line elsewhere?

Are front door handles supposed to look like this?

Both my driver's and passenger door handles slant inward toward the door. The slider handle is straight. I'm thinking it's right and the other two are wrong. Is that the case?

I'll second that emotion, very sloppy indeed. Thanks for the tip, PhotoVan. I'll try the latter.

Ugh, sorry those pics aren't right side up. I don't know what happened there. The orientation is right when I look at them on my computer.

Re: Shock mounts, Bilstein HDs, wheels & tires for 4" lift?

My buddy and I did the lift yesterday. Getting the new leaf springs in was kind of a PITA, but we finally accomplished it. One issue though: the rear axle has rotated about half an inch forward on the passenger side and half an inch rearward on the driver's side. Passenger side.JPG Drivers side.JPG ...

Re: Shock mounts, Bilstein HDs, wheels & tires for 4" lift?

I just talked with reps at Bilstein. They suggested the 5125 series shock, part number 33–062518. It has the following dimensions: Collapsed length 12.07" Extended length 18.5" External diameter 2" Damping rate 255 over 70 That damping rate might be an issue. According to the rep, sto...
