Re: Widow Screens.

Pics of the side screens I came up with. They have worked fine and pretty cheap using nylon "no see um" screen and self adhesive magnet strips. They just cover the whole window.

Re: Widow Screens.

I just used "no see em" screen I got from a camping supply place on eBay. Sold in a package with enough for me to do all the windows. I also found a nice piece of camo colored screen in the hunting dept of a local sporting goods store that was big enough to cover the back window. I just cu...

Re: I'm now camping in air conditioned luxury.

I'm using a 12g 50' cord where ever I go. I've never needed more than 50' the places I use it. Of course around the house I just plug into a wall circuit. Tag says 906 watts, don't know if that max at start up or just running. It might even run on a 1000w generator. Wish I had one to try it on. It r...

Re: I'm now camping in air conditioned luxury.

It just takes seconds to be back on the road again. Even when someone is in the passenger seat it just takes seconds. And second to have up and running again when you get to your destination. It's also really easy to set up in my truck camper and a small travel trailer we have that sometimes needs a...

Re: I'm now camping in air conditioned luxury.

This one came from Home Depot. Brand/model: SPT WA-9061H, google those and you will find out all about it. Several of the big stores carry them. Dimensions are 12" wide, 14" deep and 29" tall. It fits between my arm rests with about an inch to spare. This is a 9000btu unit and it cool...

I'm now camping in air conditioned luxury.

I had been looking for an AC system for the van that was totally portable, cheap, heat and cool, etc. I live in West Texas and being able to use AC at night really extends my season as long as I'm in parks with power which is most of the time. I ended up getting a small portable heat pump. I've used...

Re: Less becomes more.

Sorry, haven't been by here in awhile. The cot is a Camp Time "Roll-A-Cot". I got mine from Amazon but they have gone up a few dollars since I got it. I'm still loving the cot approach. I've camped with the cot at least a dozen times now. One trip was 2 weeks and I slept on the cot every n...

Re: reading ABS codes?

Figured it out. My old scan tools simply don't read the ABS codes. Ordered a new blue tooth scan tool that should handle my needs well into the future. Always something..

reading ABS codes?

Are they different than normal DTC codes form the scan tool? I have several scan tools and both are saying no DTC but I have an intermittant ABS light and random odd brake behavior. I know something id going on but can't figure out what especially if I can't find a code from the ABS system.

Re: Less becomes more.

What brand awning did you have on your van, ARB? Or Carefree of Colorado, etc? AP Sorry, I missed that. I'm using a camping labs awning. It was pretty easy to attach to the roof rack. I have found I use it a lot less than I thought I would. http://www.pbase.com/arlon/image/153846513/original.jpg

Re: Less becomes more.

Spent a week in Big Bend. Less is more philosophy seems to be working still. Had more room, less stuff to worry about and survived just fine. I also pulled the awning off the van. I haven't had it up in over a year so it now resides in the garage with a bunch of other stuff I don't think I really ne...

Re: How many miles is too many miles for a camper conversion

I just got back from spending a week in the van at a park with few facilities (Big Bend NP). a week was fine with some facilities but I don't know how I'd do living in the thing that would be a lot different. I'm sure some people have done it. Several web sites dedicated to van dwelling.. Might be w...

Re: Looking for shock recommendations for an 04 AWD

I don't like them as much as the Edelbrocks as far as drive goes. They nose dive a little more and more corner roll. Just going down the road, I see little difference. The BIG difference is the Edelbrocks broke on pavement (maybe why they don't make them anymore) and hopefully the rancho's won't. Th...

Re: New to me 2003 AWD Astro

With 31" tires, gears might become an issue. I have 3.73 gears and went to a 29" tire. The jump from stock to 29" (225/75/16 E BFG AT KO) resulted in a substantial loss in performance. Even with the 3.73 gears I have been thinking of jumping up to 4.10 just to get some power back. The...
