AC Gremlins

I have a 2002 Astro AWD, only 130,000 miles. I've had it for a couple years now, and the air conditioning has worked. This spring, I thought I'd turn it on, to see if it worked. To my surprise, it didn't. The compressor wouldn't kick in. I put my gauge on it, and it showed there was R134-A in it. So...

Re: Electrical gremlins

Well, I have figured out both my problems. First, with the door locks. As I had nothing better to do, I went through all the pages, and found someone, who had the same problem as me. And, as I noticed, the dome light switch, on the sliding door, was broken off. I replaced that, and everything starte...

Electrical gremlins

I have a 2002 Astro AWD. Love the darn thing, but a couple gremlins have popped up, and am having a hard time figuring them out. #1 My air condition compressor, won't kick on. I have checked for Freon, and its charged up. I've checked fuses, and they are all good. I checked the relays, even switched...

Problems with heater

I have a 2002 Astro AWD with just over a hundred thousand miles. It's a great vehicle, but I have noticed that the heater doesn't change to all the settings. I knew it had problems when I bought it, so checking under the hood, all the vacume hoses were rotted. I changed all the rotten hoses and for ...

Heater motor gremlins

I have a 2002 Astro AWD, with 114000 miles. The heater motor is giving me fits. Sometimes when fan speed switch is on high, the fan blows on high. Other times it runs on a medium speed. When I turn the fan speed selector to low, and gradually turn up, till it gets to high, it seems like it works, bu...

Weird cooling problem

Just bought a 2002 Astro with 88000 miles. The previous owner had problems with coolant disappearing. I figured it was an intake gasket, so I wasn't worried. Topped off the coolant, drove maybe 2 miles, and in that time I noticed the temp gauge going sky high. The previous owner said it would do tha...

leaking intake or head gasket

I just purchased a 2002 Astro AWD, with 60,000 miles. A friend whom I bought it from, has owned it since 2003 when it had 15000 miles on it. He just used it for the kids hauler or getting this or that. Hence the low miles. Recently, he has had some trouble with the coolant disappearing, and decided ...

problematic O2 Sensor

I've got a 2000 AWD Astro, with 315,000 miles on it. It's a very dependable vehicle, and has paid for itself many times over. However, I recently had to replace the cat convrter, as it kept throwing a code of PO 420 (I believe). I replaced all the O2 sensors at that time also. I hoped never to have ...

Re: Shakey Brakey

Thanks for all the advice I've gotten for my shaking problem. They were all good things to be looking for. Actually, I found the culprit. I was so intent on finding something wrong in the front end, I forgot to check the rear. I took it out for a drive, to get a real feel for what was happening. Whe...

Shakey Brakey

MY 2000 Astro, is giving me fits. I've developed a shaking in the front end. From 0 to 55, it is not noticeable. But anything over that, it starts to shake, and gets worse, as the speed increases. I jacked it up, and checked out everything that could cause it to shake. The wheel bearings, tie rods, ...

OBD II code PO420

I have a 2000 Astro AWD, with 311000 miles. It is in great shape, and runs and drives better than the 2 I had previously. I have not had any issues with the motor, except I keep getting a code PO420. I have my own scanner, so when the light comes on, I can check it out. The thing is, it only happens...

Re: may be having trouble with awd

The weather hasn't been cooperating around here lately, and I haven't gone underneith the van to check for faulty or corroded connections. Twice now, I've had someone watch the front wheels, as I stepped on the gas, while on ice. The first time, the awd kicked in, and the front wheel spun. the next ...

Re: may be having trouble with awd

The van has the GU6 code rearend, which is a 3:42. The donor van, was another astro van, but didn't have awd. I did check the rearend code on the passenger door, to be sure. The tires are all brand new, and the same size, so I'm sure that is OK. The buzzing, which seemed like it was coming from behi...

may be having trouble with awd

Does anyone have the schematic for the AWD system in a 2000 Astro van? What sensors or...... tell the encoder motor to engage the front wheels when it is needed. I want to do some troubleshooting on it, as I don't think it is working properly. I want to check out the electrical part of the system, b...

Re: Service AWD light

When I took possession this summer, I did change the transfer case oil, with the blue stuff. The old oil wasn't bad, but I wanted to change it. the transfer case was full, and there are no leaks.
As for my mechanical ability, I'm sure I can handle almost anything, except a transmission overhaul.
