Re: Transfer case with .85:1

If you are going to 4.11 we might assume you are also going with larger tires? Match the tire size to the gear size and there is no change in RPM/MPH. At that point any loss in MPG will be due to the required increase in power to move the additional weight/resistance of the larger tire. As for chang...

Re: Lowered my front axle

I know this somewhat old. Racer X. I've been looking to do this for a while but was allay appeared that that the left tie rod would hit the upper left diff mount flange on a right hand turn. Do you have a photo of that after install? Thanks BTW, I dropped my idlers like that prior to R&P install...

Re: Shock Absorber choices?

I've been running the adjustable Rancho (5000?) for several years.I'm not sure what the adjustment is for as I have had them as tight (hard) as they will go and still find them a little soft. Same with the S10 springs. Too soft and had to add leaves. These vans are so heavy I'm not sure what it take...

It hasn't kicked back on me yet but I haven't had it in real rocky terrain yet.

Re: AWD Rack and Pinion install

***update***

I took it out on some pretty rough 4x4 roads and it performed flawlessly. I managed to get one front control arm bottomed out solid and still had an inch of clearance between it and the rack. So far so good! \:D/

Re: AWD Rack and Pinion install

I had to shim the pillow bearing out a bit so the middle u-joint cleared the ECU IMG_0862.jpg finished install DSC01918.jpg So how does it drive? Is it a miracle? Well, if I never have to hear the crank pulley grinding on the cross link ever again, then yes! It is firm and very responsive and I only...

Re: AWD Rack and Pinion install

With some bending the Durango lines work perfectly at both ends IMG_0871.jpg Clearance on the passenger side is fine IMG_0872.jpg on the drivers side I had to trim the balljoint stud and remove a little casting rib on the R&P IMG_0874.jpg Next came the steering shaft. Here I used the top of the ...

Re: AWD Rack and Pinion install

Got the fab smoothed out and ready for a mock up IMG_0832.jpg IMG_0837.jpg Some tight clearances on the swaybar bushings and hose fittings so a little minor tuning then made up the crosslink bearing cairrage. IMG_0855.jpg This mounts directly to the R&P mounting bolts and keeps the cross link fr...

Hey Snowgeek. I just got your six-month old message. Sorry I haven't been on this site in years and no longer get notifications and the site won't allow me to respond via PM :-k Maybe you'll pick it up here. Did you get the frontend figured out? You don't need to swap out the entire front end, just ...

Re: AWD Rack and Pinion install

I was to mount the crosslink using the idler arm holes which are tapered and needed to be drilled for a 9/16" bolt (I forgot to include drill press under tool list). IMG_0823.jpg I was going to use a a 9/16 drill but Mark insisted on using his lathe and grinding post to make an slightly undersi...

Re: AWD Rack and Pinion install

Next up was to tie the crosslink to the rack. The unfortunate thing about the Durango unit is the tie rods have M24 1.5 threads. This is a big bolt that will need to be treaded into the ends of the rack. Those bolts if you can even find them are $$$. I found some mildly hardened threaded rod at McMa...
