Re: No start issue after charging problem.

Thanks for the tips and sorry for not getting back to this right away. (I work away from home). I did get it figured out but it wasn't at all what I expected. It turned out that the splines on the distributor shaft had stripped so the distributor wasn't spinning! A replacement distributor and I was ...

No start issue after charging problem.

Here's the background: 2003 Chevy Astro 2WD. Driving the van to Tucson about a month ago the battery light came on and the voltmeter dropped to 12v. Turned around and got the van home though it completely drained the battery in the process. With a charged battery the van would start but would run ro...

Re: disgruntled veteran-problems with travel websites

Hell its even worse for me. I've a veteran but I was a reservist. So not only do I not get discounts now , I didn't get many discounts while I was in either, because Reserve is not "Active Duty". Although I will say when I was in the CAC IDs actually said "Reserve" on them, they ...

What am I missing? Seems like a $1500 car all day long. What do they get for mpg?
I would have said $2K or maybe $2500 if it was in real great shape. Only Fieros worth more IMO are ones with well done engine swaps.

Re: comtemplating downsizing...

Wow! For $6500 that had better be one nice Fiero! Yeah, I'm no expert but unless it has a 3800SC or 350 swap, I'd say its definitely overpriced.

Re: 1998 Safari Van

To be clear, PammieSue was complaining of a sulfur smell immediately before her symptoms begin, which is a usual indicator of a cat problem. However nowhere in my short suggestion did I recommend she delete her cat. AFAIK it is illegal to delete a cat from a system that originally had one in all 50 ...

Actually, that's a M931, a 5 ton. The M35s are 2 1/2 tons (hence the title "deuce and a half").

Here's a decent M35 for $4K:

A sulfur smell indicates a general catalytic converter problem. Poor drivability combined with a sulfur smell usually indicates a clogged catalytic converter.

Re: Other cool vehicles

Wow that is cheap. Fuel consumption must hurt though. Yes and no... You're looking at about 10mpg, 13 tops. However (and this is a big however) they're multi-fuel vehicles. They can run on diesel, gasoline, kerosine, and even used motor oil. (well, a 50/50 diesel/motor oil mix). So there are ways t...

My new obsession is a Bobbed Deuce. Basically taking a surplus military M35 or "Deuce and a half": http://i897.photobucket.com/albums/ac179/jqroxy1/photo.jpg removing the rear axle and "bobbing" the frame to create a big-ass 4x4 on the cheap (Retired M35s can be had for about $25...
